Full Job Description

We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.  

The shift pattern is flexible to meet needs of service provision. Predominantly Monday-Friday. Day shift only.

The role of the Major Trauma Nurse Educator for Critical Care Dept service is to lead, deliver and evaluate the training and education across the Critical Care Department. This is a multi-facted role that includes the overseeing and delivery of the Scottish Trauma Network training and education programme to meet the needs of the Major Trauma Centre and Critical Care Department. This will enhance the quality of practice learning experience and positively contribute to the development of the nursing workforce in excess of 320 WTE registered and non registered staff in line with local and national directives. The role has a direct clinical component to ensure clinical skills and credibility are maintained.

In support of the development of the Multi Trauma Centre based in the QEUH the post holder will be required to liaise with the Trauma, Orthopeadic & Theatre teams to develop a high standard of communication between specialties, identifying learning needs and strategies to achieve best practice, seamless paths of care and ensure a high standard of practice is provided within the Critical Care department.

As well as leading in regards of the development of the educational needs of the Critical Care nursing team, Major Trauma Nurse Educator will coordinate the provision of undergraduate placements across the department to ensure that learning needs are identified and the support is available to ensure a successful positive learning experience is achieved.

Using systems approach the purpose of the role is to create an improved learning environment, enhancing the quality of the practice learning experience, facilitating learning and positively contributing to the ongoing development of the Critical Care Nursing Team to ensure a high quality of care is provided to patients and that best practice is achieved in line with current evidence. These fundamental components of the role contribute to the minimisation of risk to patients.
