Full Job Description

Dales Marine Services is a well-established national Ship Repair, Fabrication, and Engineering service provider for the marine, off and on-shore oil, gas, and renewable industries.

Our commitment to delivering excellent services in ship repair, fabrication, and engineering has propelled us into new territories and projects. As a well-established and successful company, we are expanding our team due to continued growth, long-term contracts, and increased demand for our services.

We are seeking a Dock Master/Trainee Dock Master with proven experience for our busy Aberdeen dry dock, engineering, and fabrication facility.

As part of this role, you will:

  • Demonstrate a high commitment to Health and Safety on all our sites and those of our clients.

  • Report directly to the Operations Manager.

  • Be the company's responsible person for all aspects of the dry dock usage.

  • Study vessel docking plans and set out dock blocks in preparation of vessel docking.

  • Meet with vessel master and crew to ensure they know the requirements for their vessel docking.

  • Control and direct the squad assigned to docking any vessel so that the work is carried out correctly and safely.

  • Ensure that all vessels are correctly secured and shored in a professional and safe manner.

  • Ensure that the structure of the dock, its associated pumping systems, and the vessel support blocks are maintained.

  • Perform Gas Free testing and certification of tanks and enclosed spaces.

The position would ideally suit a candidate with experience/career/background in ship repair.

  • Experience in the dry docking of ships and vessels would also be extremely beneficial.

  • Must be willing to travel to the Company's other facilities around Scotland to carry out similar work.

  • Have good written and spoken English.

  • Have the right to work in the UK if not already a UK resident.

Be able to work in a busy and challenging ship repair yard / dry dock environment.

  • Be flexible when necessary to work extended shifts, with weekday overtime and weekend working at premium rates of pay, above the yard's normal 39-hour working week.

  • It is likely that the candidate will be a time-served tradesperson from a shipwright, joinery, steelwork, or engineering background.

  • Driving licence essential.

  • The following benefits will be provided as part of the package:
  • 25 days holiday per year plus an additional 9 local/public holidays.

  • A company pension.

  • Health care plan with added dental and optical benefits.

  • Company life assurance.

  • Free on-site parking.
