Salary: £0.00 per year

Contract type: Voluntary

Position type: Voluntary

Hours: Approximately 2 hours per month

The Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act 2015 is legislation that helps communities do more for themselves and have more say in the decisions that affect them. In line with the ethos of the Act and the Scottish Community Development Centre’s Review of Area Partnerships, and the Neighbourhood Support Fund, Scottish Borders Council has been supporting working groups to identify what the 2024/25 Neighbourhood Support Fund arrangements should look like in each of the five localities.

Eildon Neighbourhood Support Fund Assessment Panel provides an exciting opportunity to join a small community-led team responsible for assessing SBC’s Neighbourhood Support Fund applications and making funding recommendations to the Eildon Area Partnership for approval.

This is an important and challenging role, offering a chance to contribute to the Eildon Area Partnership, examining grant applications to ensure consistency of assessment against approved processes and criteria, value for money, and the potential to achieve positive outcomes for the benefit of the community. The Assessment Panel aims to contribute to the open, accountable, and transparent decision making that forms the basis of Eildon Neighbourhood Support Fund.

Successful candidates will have a genuine interest in the positive development of communities across Eildon. We are looking to add to an already mixed group of grant assessors however, applicants should have an understanding of local need and priorities, have good communication and interpersonal skills, be willing to work as part of a team, be respectful of the views of others and be willing to learn.

Assessment Panel meetings are scheduled once per month on a Tuesday evening, 17:30 – 18:30. We recommend that each member sets aside one hour of preparation time ahead of a scheduled meeting to read through the applications that have been submitted. If no applications are submitted then that month’s panel meeting will be cancelled. There will be a maximum of 11 meetings per fiscal year.
