Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our busy Community Protection Service. As a Pest & Dog Control Officer you will contribute to the effective delivery of Community Protection to all customers by carrying out the operational Pest and Dog Control activities of the Community Safety Team to protect public health and safety and meet standards and performance targets.

You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality responsive customer focussed services to the public, within a challenging and varied environment. This will include discharging the Councils statutory responsibilities for ensuring that the Council area is kept as far as practicable free from pests. You will respond to requests for pest control services (both domestic and commercial) in accordance with current service standards. You will be required to manage all aspects of pest control service delivery including pest identification, diagnosing and effecting treatments, as well as carrying out a proactive and reactive dog control service ensuring that stray dogs are identified and detained and delivered to appropriate kennel facilities.

Applicants should possess excellent communication skills at all levels, an ability to work effectively on their own initiative, and also be able to support the wider performance of the Community Safety team through a culture of teamwork and flexibility in order to support the overall success of the Council. Community Protection is committed to providing high quality services and therefore actively promotes staff training and development. You will be encouraged to develop your knowledge and skills across the community safety platform.

You must have sound general education educated to HNC standard with relevant experience in a pest control role and either have or are prepared to work towards a RSPH Level 2 Certificate in Pest Management - to be obtained within 1 year of attaining post if not already in possession of qualification. You must also possess a full current driving licence.

PVG / Disclosure Scotland

The following criteria applies to all roles within East Dunbartonshire Council where PVG/Disclosure checks are essential criteria

Where the post you are applying for is considered Regulated Work under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007, successful candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme Update check, prior to confirmation of employment being made by East Dunbartonshire Council.

Please note, successful candidates will be expected to meet the cost of the relevant check which will be deducted from the successful candidate’s first salary payment.

In specific circumstances the payment could be deducted in instalments from an employee’s wages following commencement of employment. Approval in such circumstances will be made by HR Services Lead.

Should an employee leave in advance of the payment being deducted, the full amount will be deducted from the employee’s final salary.

The criteria outlined above will apply to existing employees of East Dunbartonshire Council who apply for roles for which a PVG/Disclosure check is required.
