Accountancy and Accounting in Scotland

Scotland has a long and proud association with the Accountancy Profession. The world's first professional body of accountants was the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) and to this day its "CA" qualification is seen as one of the most pre-eminent within the Accounting Profession worldwide.

As well as ICAS Accountants can achieve professional qualifications with a range of bodies including the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

The Accountancy profession is split into 3 general areas of employment: private practice, the public sector and commercial organisations. The industry continues to enjoy growing demand for staff each year, partly due to the increased financial complexities brought about by globalisation. As business continues to evolve finance professionals are being required to take on more strategic roles and to have more technical knowledge
