We recently held a competition to win A Day in the Life of a Radio Presenter in partnership with Global Radio, who broadcast to over 24 million listeners each week via well-known stations such as Heart, Smooth Radio, Capital, Capital XTRA and Classic FM. One lucky winner would then have the chance to get first-hand experience of what it is really like to entertain listeners on a daily basis.

After sifting through the entries, Jordan Whitefield was chosen as our winner and we set a date for our Global tour!

The day started with Jordan demonstrating his creative streak, by taking a simple brief and transforming it into a fully-fledged radio advert, complete with an over-exaggerated voiceover, provided by Johnny Bravo himself- ok the voice of Johnny Bravo! The ad was accompanied by big band music and snappy copy which suited the client brief to a T.

Jordan was then let loose behind the mic as he enjoyed his own on air experience complete with time spent in the hot seat, perfecting his presenter voice before the mic went live. He was a natural, a sentiment echoed by Producer John.

“For someone who’s only just got in front of the mic, Jordan’s shown great potential- he even managed to nail the vocal with only a couple of attempts.” Said Producer John.

Although he loved presenting , Jordan’s passion lies in production and editing, with a background in independent film production, behind the scenes felt like a much more natural fit for Jordan.

Editing the Music Minute for the drive time show with Yasmine Zemmoura was a real eye-opener for Jordan as he was able to witness the time involved in creating, editing and producing content for radio, which may only last a couple of minutes on air. He left with a real admiration for the team of professionals at Global who make it all run to clockwork without breaking a sweat!

Jordan added: “I entered the s1jobs competition because I always enjoyed studying Radio Production at college, and was keen to see how working professionally in the radio industry would be.

When I found out I had won the competition, I couldn’t believe it as I normally don’t win anything! The tour itself was absolutely fantastic, and my favourite part of the day was when I got to work with Gary and create a 30 second ad for a doughnut company, and have the amazing Marc Silk create the voice-over for it.

It was such a fun day from start to finish!”
