Assistant Quantity Surveyor
The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will be shadowing the Senior Quantity Surveyor, assisting mainly in the commercial management of the project and to administer; measure and value elements of the project.
Role Responsibilities :
· Procurement and control of various subcontract packages from enquiry through to final account
· Measurement and re-measurement of the project works
· Taking off quantities from construction drawings
· Ensuring payment applications submitted by cut-off date and all sub-contract documents for approval by deadline
· Assist in identifying areas of overspend and waste on the project
· Assist Senior QS and project staff in the identification of commercial risks
· Assist in the preparation of sub-contract documents for approval by the Senior Quantity Surveyor
· Assist in the preparation of interim and final account submissions by the QS/Senior QS
· Ensure notification of payments to sub-contractors are always submitted and are fully descriptive and withholding notices issued where appropriate
· Chase any payment certificates and outstanding payments
· Assist in the identification, submission and settlement of insurance claims under the guidance of the Senior QS/Project Commercial Manager
· Assist in the production of accurate internal reporting and administration of accurate internal records
· Assist in the measurement of sub-contractors' work and identify and record variations
· Where appropriate attend commercial and site progress meetings and ensure commercial actions discharged and appropriate commercial manager advised
Skills Required :
· HND/BSc/MSc in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent)
· Experience of similar role in the construction industry
· Knowledge of the procurement of sub contractors and the monthly measurement cycle associated with this.
· Understanding of reporting measurement and cost control essential.
· Knowledge of Method of Measurement for Highway works would be an advantage
· Local market knowledge
· Excellent IT skills
· Used to working in a team of surveyors and project managers
· Have the ability to work as part of a team or independently
· Have excellent communication skills and attention to detail
