SSE Wind Generation is the largest Owner and Operator of Wind Farms in the UK. SSE is building an ambitious programme of new Wind Farms, both on-shore and Off-shore and requires highly motivated and skilled personnel to match. The team operates across a number of offices in Perthshire, Glasgow and Ireland, undertaking all aspects of wind farm management, operation and maintenance.
We are looking for a highly experienced Electrical Engineer with a good operational knowledge of power systems and electrical generation plant. The position will primarily cover the Highlands and Islands of Scotland but may involve travel to other areas as required. This is an exciting opportunity to work within an emerging and dynamic industry with regular exposure to new and developing technology. You will be part of the Wind Engineering team responsible for the Technical integrity, maintenance and improvement of Scottish and Southern Energy's Wind farm portfolio.
Key responsibilities will include;
- Management of the wind farm high voltage electrical networks and connecting systems, power electronics, electrical generators, PLCs and electrical installations.
- Provision of Technical support to operational site staff for preventative and corrective maintenance tasks.
- Development of safe working practices and procedures. Application of standards for condition based monitoring.
As part of the Engineering team you will be involved with new project's to ensure efficient handover of assets and to capitalise on the opportunity for knowledge sharing and operational feedback.
You will have the opportunity to regularly complete site work; this can involve working outdoors in remote areas. Training on working at Height will be given.
You will be a graduate, or equivalent (HNC) with extensive experience, in an Electrical Engineering discipline. You will be an operational SAP or demonstrate the ability to quickly achieve this, have experience in electrical power plant, switchgear, transformers and control systems. Knowledge in wind turbine technology is preferable but not essential.
Experience in an operational and maintenance environment, including the use of Maximo or equivalent maintenance management system, would be beneficial. The work will involve site investigations and therefore includes work at height and in remote environments.
