Activity Worker
Quarriers NASA Saltcoats is a youth supported housing project, for young male and female residents aged 16-25 years. The main focus of the project is to support young people to gain independent living skills, support with dependency issues and emotional support, before moving on to permanent social housing. A support team of 19 staff in involved.
The project is adjacent to a bus stop, train station and the town centre. the project is very lively and challenging but the work is very rewarding.
The purpose of the role is to provide activities two evening per week during the winter months, this assists young people to develop skills away fro negative pursuits.
The main tasks will be to plan activities within the project and then facilitate them. The activities will be for small groups of young people residing in the project. We have an IT room with seven computers, air hockey, arts and craft materials and various games. We also have equipment for showing DVD's (for the person to set up an activities program using the resouces already available withing the project.
The skills and qualities required includes cheerful person wth good communication skills and ability to interact with young people. Be able to record and keep a record of all group activities and able to work as part of a team. Be able to assist young people who at times could display challenging behaviours.
The Activity Worker will be based at NASA Saltcoats starting in mid September, two evening per week between 7.00 pm and 9.00 p.
In-house inductin training will be provided wich will include initially shadowing a mentor as well as appropriate Quarriers training. Support and supervision will be given by the line manager. The tasks will be activities only and would not include any formal types of support work. Due to nature of project the mininum age for involvememt would be 25.
Application is through application form, informal interview, disclosure check and references. An initial visit to the project which will include meeting some of the young people will also be arranged and a taster session can be arranged at the initial viist.
Travel expenses to work and training will be provided. There is a bus stop in front of the project and a rail station across the road. There is parking at the station for car users.
Consistency of attendance to allow us to plan activities with young people and someone who lives local due to the lengh of time involved would be desirable.
