PRACTITIONER SERVICES

Medical, Pharmacy, Dental & Ophthalmic Contractor Streams

The Practitioner Services Division of NSS validates claims and authorises payments to all primary care contractors in Scotland:  general medical and dental practitioners, optometrists/OMPs and community pharmacists.  In 2004/05 these services were valued in excess of £1.6bn and accounted for 20% of the total NHS expenditure.

The PSD Business Users Group currently undertakes an extensive programme of services on the Pharmacy, Medical, Dental & Ophthalmic core systems (DCVP, PRS, PMSPS, QMAS, MIDAS, OPTIX, EDI & iDent).  These services include the delivery of all system developments & enhancements, supplier delivery management, first line business support, general system administration, information provision, system documentation and training for staff.

As a BUG Administrator you will

  • Undertake all aspects of User Acceptance Testing relating to the enhancement and development of PSD’s core systems ensuring full & rigorous testing of software is completed.
  • Work closely with system suppliers
  • Provide a first line support service for operational staff relating to any system issues that may need resolved. 
  • Carry out system administration tasks for Divisional core systems in areas such as users access, maintaining reference data, managing business rules etc.
  • Coordination & management of areas of the schedule production process for each contractor streams ensuring payments are made accurately and on time.
  • Be involved in PSD projects as a skilled resource in areas such as testing, business & systems input.
  • Undertake staff training regarding system changes or system overviews.
  • Extract, analyse & manipulate data in order to deal with PSD information requests.
  • Be a strong communicator in order to foster good working relationships with all levels of staff, internal and external to the NHS.
  • Be educated to degree level, with experience in a similar business, IT or support environment.
  • Have to be prepared to undertake travel across various PSD sites throughout Scotland.
