Job Title -Technical Manager

Job profile –

Develop new friction materials as required to meet vehicle requirements and take advantage of market opportunities.
Investigate the use of alternative materials and components, or the same materials and components from alternative suppliers, in order to continually reduce total raw material costs while at the same time improving performance.
Control all aspects of quality, ensuring that standards are continuously improved
Routine batch testing
Establish/coordinate third party testing where required
Quality of both documentation and product.
Customer technical issues and warranty claim reporting (Q Pulse)
Investigate/eliminate defects as notified by our customers (PPM) including 8D reporting
Introduce/update quality control indicators as necessary.
Employee training
Maintain the Quality Management System
Identify and eliminate all sources of waste.
Maintenance of the ISO9001:2000 Quality Management System through:
Internal audits;Calibration;Corrective/preventive actions:
Monitoring performance relative to scrap & customer complaints
Liaising with external auditors during ISO9001:2000 surveillance audits
Managing 2 technicians with responsibility for ensuring that routine in-process checks are carried out
Overseeing the introduction of new parts to the product range:Approve components to be used in new products
Defining product specifications
Final sign-off of trial production runs
Checking and approving all changes of supply of critical components:Approval of new suppliers
Checking and approving alternative components/materials for use
Handling all customer warranties from first receipt to final closure.
Handling all supplier warranty issues from receipt of goods to final closure.
Offering technical advice to customers upon request.
Offering support to the production department for problem solving, reject reduction, efficiency improvement .

Key performance indicators will include
Sales performance; Customer returns (PPM); Material cost per kg; Waste (yield, scrap & rework)

Degree plus experience of materials science in a development, quality, test or manufacturing role
