Survey Analyst
Starting salary from £19,624 to £22,606
This is a great opportunity for a graduate or post-graduate with proven skills in quantitative analysis or statistics to work in a leading research establishment. There will be generous opportunities to take on a wide skills base of research methodology, analysis, writing, presentation skills, at the same time gaining an understanding of gender and health issues, and to develop further skills in research e.g. in more advanced statistical methods, data analysis and systematic reviewing. There are opportunities to attend relevant conferences nationally and internationally.
The key tasks will be to undertake quantitative analyses, summarise the findings from published literature, and provide support to the other researchers on the Gender and Health Programme as required. Other responsibilities will include the analysis of data from several data sets (eg West of Scotland Twenty-07 study and other data sets within the Unit, British Household Panel Survey, Scottish Health Survey, routinely collected health data for the UK and other countries) for a range of research papers examining the link between gender and health. It is envisaged that a major part of the work will involve analysis of a complex routinely collected data set on general practitioner (GP) consultations to study whether men and women differ in patterns of consultation for various illnesses.
You should have a good (1st or 2:1) honours degree in Statistics or Social Sciences/Human Sciences with a degree of quantitative training. You should also have training or experience of statistical analysis of quantitative data (eg using SPSS, STATA, SAS or other packages). Familiarity with gender and health issues and an interest or experience in social or public health sciences would be advantageous.

This appointment will be to a Band 5 post in the MRC salary structure (salary range £19,624 to £22,606), depending on skills and capabilities.
