Service Company to the Faculty of Advocates
The Scottish Bar is one of Scotland’s most ancient and prestigious institutions with a membership of about 460 practising Advocates. Solicitors contact the Advocates’ Clerk in order to send instructions to Advocates for legal advice and court appearances. The following vacancy has arisen within the Murray Stable:
Assistant Deputy Advocates’ Clerk (ref 09/27)
Grade 4b, Salary: £10,369 per annum.
20 hours per week varied between 08h30 and 13h00 – 5 days a week.
The post reports to the Advocates’ Clerk and its purpose is to perform routine administrative duties within the stable. Key responsibilities include maintaining databases and electronic diaries; processing mail; checking Counsels’ boxes; dealing with operational queries and providing administrative support to events and conferences organised by the Stable. A grasp of web based networking skills would be an advantage.
The successful candidate must possess a basic school education of Higher Grade English or equivalent. A minimum of 2 years experience in a law-related or administrative role is desirable, but other relevant skills and experience will be taken into account. An HNC or equivalent would be a distinct advantage. Good communication skills; the ability to prioritise and work effectively under pressure are essential, as is a professional and helpful manner.
