Key Responsibilities:

Main Duties:

Hosting - welcome customers from all groups (e.g. schools, parties etc) in a friendly and hospitable manner: to control the traffic flow in the lobbies and auditoriums: to make dynamic welcome and exit speeches and to provide a clean and safe IMAX® Cinema & Tower experience.To co-ordinate the opening and closing of doors and manage queuing congestion.

Selling – To carry out sales transactions for the Science Mall, IMAX® and Glasgow Tower. in a friendly and positive manner. Responsibilities include initiating and completing all sales transactions with customers using the in house system. This includes welcoming/greeting customers, suggestive selling, up selling for Community groups, Birthday parties, Season tickets and other special events taking place at GSC. Processing all ticket transactions using GSC cash handling procedures. Ensuring that all transactions are processed quickly and accurately.

Visitor Enquiries - Understanding the major aspects of the Glasgow Science Centre attractions in order to answer general customer questions either by telephone or face-to-face. To provide additional information – be aware of other information, which may be required, such as transport queries and other events taking place in Glasgow and local area. Refer more difficult questions to appropriate department. Handling lost property under the guidelines set forth by Glasgow Science Centre.

Hospitality – Assisting the corporate hospitality team in accordance with the event brief, serving all food and beverage in a friendly, polite and professional manner.

Housekeeping - Ensuring that the work area is clean and neat at all times (including exhibits, equipment, glasswork, floors and Online etc.). Ensuring all display, Customer Comment cards, brochures, ticket stock and other supplies are well stocked and relevant at all times. Advising marketing when products are low to ensure supplies are reordered before being depleted. Follow daily check sheets and report any faults to facilities or the Duty Manager. Assist janitorial staff during lunch periods by helping clearing up after school lunches.

Emergency Management - Handling customer complaints and asking for assistance from Duty Managers when necessary. Controlling and or directing Customers in an emergency situation to prevent injuries or accidents in line with Glasgow Science Centre’s health and safety procedures. To participate in training as required to effectively and efficiently carrying out your job. To work within the standards of the Glasgow Science Centre’s health and safety policy.To carry out other reasonable duties/tasks as required such as assisting on the floors, assisting retail and meeting the objectives of your team and Glasgow Science Centre.

Skills & Experience

  •  Experience of dealing with the public, community groups and school children.
  • Confident and with good communication skills.
  • Well presented in accordance with Glasgow Science Centre uniform policy.
  • Good working knowledge of IT.

Personal Qualities

  • A genuine enthusiasm for science and technology.
  • Ability to work as part of a team unsupervised.
  • Ability to remain calm in difficult situations including assisting with the evacuation of visitors during an emergency.
  • Able to work shifts including weekdays, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
