Lords Commissioner for Standards
The House of Lords has agreed a new Code of Conduct for its Members and the appointment of a new and independent post of Commissioner for Standards. The holder of this Office will be responsible for the independent investigation and assessment of allegations of breaches of the House's Code of Conduct by Members, including in relation to the House's expenses and allowances system.
Candidates will have operated at senior level within a complex organisation in the public or private sector, and will bring natural authority to the role. They must be able to make sound decisions and give objective advice based on best available evidence, and must be able to work in an environment where decisions are subject to intense public and media scrutiny. Discretion in handling information of a highly sensitive nature will be critical. The appointee will demonstrate the highest levels of personal integrity, fairness and impartiality.
The successful candidate will initially be contracted to work a minimum of 5 days per month and must be available for additional work at short notice when required.
