We are now recruiting for an Addictions Nurse at our newest establishment, HMP Addiewell, in Scotland. This is an important role reporting to a Unit Manager at HMP Addiewell and working closely with colleagues both locally, and in the wider Kalyx and Sodexo environments.
Key aspects of the post
- To provide professional support to the provision of supportive care pathways for drug and alcohol dependent Prisoners to ensure that all aspect of the Prisoners needs are met in working towards abstinence. To liaise with healthcare and provide clinical knowledge to support the Addictions Team.
- Ensure that all prisoners receive appropriate harm minimisation information.
- Complete Comprehensive Addiction Assessments with substance dependent prisoners.
- Carry out clinical observations, with healthcare, on dependent prisoners that are stabilising during first few days in custody.
- Work with healthcare to support prisoners whilst they are stabilising and de-toxing. Undertake care-planning processes, including organisation of care plan reviews.
- Plan and agree service responses, which meet individuals’ identified needs and circumstances in relation to the 9 Offender Outcomes.
- Provide structured support, advice and guidance to individuals with drug-related issues.
- Interact with other departments within the establishment to ensure effective support for prisoners and to promote continuity of care.
- Assist in the transfer of individuals between agencies and services, including liaison with drug in-reach, health and reintegration services.
- Facilitate a range of group work in relation to health issues for dependent prisoners.
- Supervise and coordinate associated addictions worker
- Training of PCOs to enable to carry over role as ‘Addiction Specialist’ PCO to work in supporting role to Addiction Workers.
Knowledge, skills and experience:
Essential
- Qualified RMN/RGN
- Must have 1 years experience within similar role
- Be an outstanding communicator, with highly developed influencing skills.
- Be innovative and forward thinking.
- Have a high level of professionalism and competence in role.
- Treats others with Respect, Dignity and Decency
Desirable
- Secure environment experience
- Harm Reduction experience
- Understanding of current treatment programmes available
