Artworker / Assistant Designer

Responsible to: Graphic Designer
Key Responsibilities:
To work as assistant to an experienced designer, under their guidance, to finalise design and print artwork from initial concepts and layouts provided. Co-ordinate, manage and monitor progress of work placed with suppliers. Subject to experience and achievement, there will be the opportunity to develop design skills and take on graphic design projects from inception.
Main Duties:
- Setting text and images into existing document templates
- Developing and finalising documents and artwork from initial layouts and concepts, working within an established style and using guidelines
- Working under guidance in a wide variety of media, from posters and conventional print to ad copy for press and digital advertisements and digital space such as plasma displays and video
- Assisting with the maintenance of graphical materials and images for the website
- Working with a variety of programmes and formats including PowerPoint, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Microsoft Office
- Providing back-up to the Designer in managing print suppliers
- Assisting with scheduling and managing work demands and traffic
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- Some experience in commercial artworking or design studio or a strong and demonstrable amateur interest in the subject
- Familiarity and experience with graphic design software packages such as photoshop’, ‘indesign’ or similar
- A good standard of general education
- Higher grade English
- This position might suit someone who has completed academic study of graphic design, and/or who has some practical experience gained in an agency environment or graphic design department
Personal Qualities:
- A good basic grounding in theoretical graphic design principles
- An interest in design, advertising and marketing
- A pragmatic and methodical approach to work in a business environment that can have hard deadlines
- Being a quick learner, able to develop skills ‘on the job’.
- A flexible and open-minded attitude
- A positive approach that focuses on completing tasks
- Flexible or part-time working may be a possibility for a suitable applicant.
