DEVELOPMENT UNDERWRITER Glasgow   Circa £40,000

The position is for Development Underwriter within this major insurer in the Glasgow Branch. The role will have both personal and collective responsibility for the growth and profitability of the insurance portfolio. The position involves the underwriting of new business in line with company appetites as well as developing business with brokers.

Specific responsibilities will include:

• Delivering a profit  - implementing an underwriting and marketing strategy that matches products and appetite to the local market
• Driving the marketing and development plan to consolidate and build from a solid, sustainable and profitable book of business
• Developing close working relationships with a panel of designated key brokers with tenacity / skill in pursuing target accounts and devising robust visit strategies
• Getting involved with the regional budget and being responsible for its achievement
• The position will be judged primarily against growth, profitability and service of new business, with an involvement in existing business
• Preparing, delivering and negotiating quotations
• It also requires strong focus so that the individual establishes and executes business plans to maximise business opportunities with those brokers

The individual must have a proven background in business development within a general insurance underwriting role.  You will be confident to make decisions, both independently and in collaboration with colleagues and / or managers and to refer to colleagues when required. You must be an effective communicator with excellent influencing and negotiation skills both written and verbally with the ability to build strong business relationships with brokers and customers and demonstrate general analytical and financial analysis skills.
