Reviewing Officer - Looked After Children and Child Protection - Re-advertisement Strathbrock Partnership, Broxburn Service Area: Social Policy Salary:£30,783 - £35,157 Ref: 291.06- Closing Date: 5th September 2010

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed person, with significant professional child care experience, to join our team of reviewing officers. You will be required to chair and manage complex multi-agency Looked After Children reviews and Child Protection Case Conferences. With the assistance of dedicated administrative support you will also contribute to the collation, interpretation and maintenance of accurate management information. You must be a qualified social worker and hold the Certificate in Child Protection Studies. A full driving licence is desirable, as extensive travel both within and without West Lothian is a necessary part of the job.

Requirements

Purpose of the Job

Chairing and managing complex multi-agency meetings, including Looked After Children Reviews, Child Protection Case Conferences, Pathway Planning Meetings, Throughcare and Aftercare Reviews and, as required other appropriate meetings.

Contributing to the collation, interpretation and maintenance of accurate management information and statistical records.

Principal Accountabilities / Key Tasks

To chair statutory review meetings for children who are Looked After by the Council in accordance with current legislation and Council policies and procedures.

To chair Child Protection case conferences in accordance with Council policies and agreed procedures, as promulgated by the Edinburgh and Lothians Child Protection Committee.

To ensure that the welfare of Looked After children is safeguarded and promoted and that, where practicable and appropriate, arrangements are in place to promote, on a regular basis, personal relations and direct contact between Looked After children and parents / relevant persons.

To ensure that the views and wishes of Looked After children are known / represented and that the involvement of children and their parents is maximised in the review, child protection and planning processes.

To contribute to the collection, maintenance and dissemination of accurate statistical data and management information in relation to the service, including monitoring, auditing / interpreting data and reporting on outcomes and unmet need.

To contribute to the development and maintenance of high quality service standards in relation to care and protection planning and decision making for children subject to LAC review and child protection procedures.

To contribute to the continuous professional development of other staff within the sector.

To liaise with the Practice Teams, other Social Policy teams, other professionals and agencies to promote a responsive and constructive multi-disciplinary approach to practice, planning for and the protection of children and young people.

To participate in task / working groups and professional groups within Social Policy services and other relevant agencies, representing the service as required.

To keep abreast of professional developments in the field, practice theory and legislation, including an awareness of issues in relation to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Council policy and procedures.

To ensure that you are up to date and effective in the use of IT systems, in accordance with the requirements of the Council.

To undertake such other appropriate duties as directed by the Head of Social Policy.
