Our client, a large manufacturing company is looking for a Production Engineer , reporting to the Engineering Manager to work on their site.

The purpose of the job is to provide the Business Unit with a technical support to ensure continued efficient operation of existing machinery. Introduce, design and develop manufacturing techniques for new or existing equipment.

Main Responsibilities

  • Examine and diagnose problems with machine & process performance levels, taking necessary corrective action to remedy.
  • Drive improvement via weekly review meetings, using tools & techniques
  • Identify potential improvements to existing machinery & tooling
  • Investigate & introduce new techniques for improved machine / process performance. Carry out the necessary design and development work to modify and / or replace
  • Control & administer the PPM system, so that risk of machine failure is minimal
  • Prepare operating and maintenance instructions for new equipment and carry out the initial training of production and maintenance personnel to ensure correctly operated and maintained
  • Prepare annual recommendations and capital justification for engineering projects to achieve cost savings and / or improved productivity and quality.
  • Co-ordinate the activities of the Business Unit maintenance personnel providing advise and instruction on fault identification and repair method to ensure continued efficiency

Skills Required

  • Daily Face to face contact with departmental management to identify work requirements
  • Daily Face to face contact with skilled tradesmen to provide assistance and advice
  • Daily Face to face contact with production personnel at all levels
  • Daily Face to face contact with planning, quality and process engineering personnel
  • Weekly face to face & telephone contact with Purchasing and Toolroom

Experience Required

  • Design engineering skills especially in regards to design/machine modifications
  • Good working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics & electrical systems
  • Basic engineering techniques
  • Knowledge of Risk Assessment Procedures
  • Good report writing skills
  • Ability to react quickly to changing situations & make decisions
  • PC proficient
  • Effective communication by, phone, email or verbally
  • Experience and knowledge of continuous improvement tools and techniques

Ideally the successful candidate for this position should have at least 5 years experience in a similar engineering environment with a wide range of engineering processes.
