Services provided include the design, fabrication and installation of pipework, building services, heating and ventilation, industrial extraction, industrial and medical gases and access/structural steelwork. These services are provided into various industry sectors including Water, Petrochemical, Pharmaceutical, Manufacturing and Food and Drink.

An exciting opportunity has arisen as leader of a compact Design Team within the organisation.

Role Outline

As the Leader of the design team you will work closely with the Project Delivery Team to create innovative design solutions for projects which are typically valued at anything up to £500K.

Key responsibilities as Leader include:

• Prioritise and manage the team’s workload to deliver design solutions and drawings.
• Critically evaluate, re-design and manage Drawing and Document Control processes.
• To introduce standardised component design
• To identify Training and Development requirements for the Design Team, develop KPIs for the Team (as a whole and also on an individual basis) and to conduct appraisals.
• To ensure that up to date and relevant standards and codes are adhered to and identify a suitable Professional Body for Company Membership as a route to networking and also as a source for potential ongoing professional development for members of the Design Team.
• To contribute to the commercial decision making by liaising with the Financial Controller on matters such as chargeable draughting time and charge rates.

Key Responsibilities as Lead Design Engineer / Draughtsman include:

• To use knowledge and expertise to create innovative design solutions from inception through to product realisation using drawing packages (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
• To interpret client requirements via drawings, site visits and site measures.
• Prepare and submit GA (and Detail) Drawings to clients.
• To prepare and issue installation drawings to Site Teams.
• Work to variable timescales and deadlines, liaising with the client, Project Manager/Engineer, the Workshop Manager and the Site Manager (including Purchasing/Stores where appropriate).

Preferred qualifications for this role would be an HND in Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering discipline (HNC would be considered if coupled with relevant work experience). High level of competence in SolidWorks, AutoCAD and well developed IT skills using Word, Excel and outlook. Previous experience in a role of this type is preferable. Working knowledge of piping/ducting systems is highly desirable, with experience of structural and access steelwork design preferable. Some experience of general Project Management would be an advantage.
