The successful candidate would ideally be educated to degree level or higher and should have a number of years experience in optical and opto-mechanical instrumentation gained through work in a commercial or research environment. They should be able to demonstrate an excellent understanding of and be able to utilise in a practical manner all the basic optical components such as lenses, filters, beam splitters etc. The candidate should have experience in and be familiar with lasers and detectors and have the ability to align, troubleshoot and fault find complex optical systems.
Candidates with experience in microscopy and especially laser scanning microscopy are preferred. Applicants should be confident in all the practical aspects of optical systems and have the experience necessary to assist in taking a design all the way from prototype stages into production.
Some experience in electronics circuit setup and testing is desirable, but not strictly required. All applicants must be creative, self motivated individuals with excellent problem solving skills.
A key element of the role will be travel so any candidate applying should be able and willing to travel as required.
The candidate should be a highly motivated and personable individual with excellent interpersonal skills. Foreign language skills (French and German) would also be desirable.
