In February 2003, the Scottish Executive launched the National Physical Activity Strategy which clearly defined Active Schools as an area of focus.
Sportscotland is committed to investing in the Active Schools Network and its fundamental aim of offering all children and young people the opportunities and motivation to adopt active, healthy lifestyles, now and into adulthood.
In order to strengthen its Active Schools team, Scottish Borders Council, in partnership with sportscotland, currently wish to appoint one Active Schools Coordinator to its team:
This is a key appointment to support current, and develop new opportunities for school aged pupils to participate in regular, frequent, safe and fun sport and physical activity.
The post will all be offered on a fixed term contracts through to 31 March 2011. The position will be appointed under APT & C conditions to allow flexible deployment in relation to holidays and other out of school commitments.
Essential Candidate Specification
Educated to degree level or GTS registered.
Clearly demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the aims of the Active Schools Network.
Extensive experience of engaging with children and young people through sport and physical activity in education, sport, health, community, leisure and/or recreation industries.
Proven project management experience.
Excellent communication skills
A full current driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
