An exciting position has arisen within SAC’s Avian Science Research Centre (ASRC), based in Auchincruive, Ayr. Working in the poultry unit, you will be part of a team responsible for a project looking at the welfare costs and benefits of existing and novel on-farm culling methods for poultry that are sick or injured. The post involves working with SAC’s project partners at the University of Glasgow as well as conducting work on commercial farms. You will be able to work both independently and closely with SAC’s partners and funders, be competent at basic statistics and report writing, and generally manage the day-to-day running of the project. A demonstrated interest in animal welfare would be an advantage.

You will have an MSc or PhD in an animal science (preferably with animal behaviour and/or welfare experience) or a degree in veterinary medicine. A current driving licence is essential as the position will involve travelling to SAC’s various locations and throughout Scotland.

This is a fixed term post available until 31 May 2013 in the first instance.

The salary will be in the region of £27,410 - £32,210 per annum.
