AIMS
In our Catholic School we aim to create

Successful Individuals
Teaching and Learning together
Making informed choices and decisions

St. Mary’s RC Primary School serves the community of Haddington and surrounding area. It was founded in 1869 by Father John Prendergast, the first Catholic priest resident in Haddington since the Reformation. For the first few years, classes were held in rented rooms near the church of St. Mary’s in Poldrate until a school was built close to the church.

Currently St Mary’s RC Primary school is being accommodated partly in temporary units and partly in classrooms within King’s Meadow Primary School prior to the opening of the new school building in autumn 2012. This is an exciting development of a joint campus with Haddington Infant School and is a great opportunity for the new Head Teacher to be able to shape the future of the new school.

The present roll from P1 to P7 is 106 pupils in 5 classes, and is made up of Catholic and non Catholic pupils. We also have a non-denominational nursery wing, which caters for 80 children, 40 in the morning and a different group of 40 children in the afternoon.

At St Mary’s we are concerned with the development of the whole child: spiritual, academic, physical and aesthetic. These aspects of a pupil’s development are inter-connected and link to the values, principles and purposes of Curriculum for Excellence.

The nursery provides a caring and stimulating environment where children learn through play, and can choose to play outside in the fresh air every day as appropriate.

Effective communication with parents is a very important part of the school’s business. Regular newsletters keep parents inform about school activities, and there is an active Parent Council which provides valuable support to the head teacher and staff.
