Job Details
Purpose of the Job In accordance with Annex B of 'A Teaching Profession of the 21st Century', the role of the Depute Head Teacher is to assist and, where necessary, to deputise for the Head Teacher in the conduct of the school's affairs. The Head Teacher's role as expressed in Annex B includes:

(a) responsibility for the leadership, good management and strategic direction of the school.
(b) responsibility for school policy for the behaviour management of pupils.
(c) the management of all staff, and the provision of professional advice and guidance to colleagues.
(d) the management and development of the school curriculum.
(e) to act as adviser to the School Board and to participate in the selection and
appointment of the staff of the school.
(f) to promote the continuing professional development of all staff and to ensure that all staff have an annual review of their development needs.
(g) working in partnership with parents, other professionals, agencies and schools.
(h) to manage the health and safety of all within the school premises.
Major Tasks The Depute Head Teacher is a senior management position in the school.

The particular responsibilities associated with this post, in accordance with School and Authority policies, will include a variety of tasks dependent upon the interests and skills of the successful candidate, such as:

1. Leadership and oversight of numeracy as part of Curriculum for Excellence

2. Target setting and tracking of progress across the school

3. Liaison with a number of subject areas

4. Year Head for S5/6

5. Conduct of departmental reviews

6. Pastoral care oversight of a House

7. School Councils and liaison with Pupil Leadership Team

8. Developing ‘the pupil voice’

9. Admissions to school

10. All examinations and SQA arrangements

11. Assessment and Reporting

12. Assembly programme

13. Staff Rotas

14. Wider achievement, including prizegiving and awards ceremonies.

15. Equal opportunities.

17. Overview of Eco School

18. Any other duties as can reasonably be attached to the post as assigned by the Head Teacher





Job Requirements
Relevant Qualifications Current GTC registration
Teaching qualification in Secondary School Subject(s).
Evidence of continuing professional development
Additional professional qualifications
