Fixed Term Contract – 12 months
35 hours per week – 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday with a one hour unpaid meal break each day. There is flexibility with this post and could be offered on a part-time basis from between 28 to 35 hours.
This role includes a Final Salary Pension Scheme, 24 days holiday and an Employee Assistance Programme.
THE ORGANISATION
The Scottish Police Services Authority (SPSA) works closely with our partners and stakeholders to provide expert policing and support services to Scotland's eight police forces and criminal justice community. Our aim is to continually enhance the effectiveness of the services we provide to policing in Scotland, which include training and education, the provision of national data and information technology systems and a national forensic service. We also maintain the Scottish Crime & Drug Enforcement Agency.
ROLE To advise SPSA at all levels on legal matters taking into account legislation, policy requirements and commercial demands.
ROLE RESPONSIBILIES
- Provide professional legal advice to both SPSA and SCDEA on any matters arising and undertake representation on their behalf as and when required.
- Manage delegated tasks arising from litigation and other formal proceedings, whether in court or elsewhere.
- Draft, review and negotiate contracts and other legal documentation required in support of organisational objectives.
- Provide training and development to SPSA and SCDEA staff as necessary relating to legal matters, processes and commercial matters closely aligned with legal risk.
- Provide advice to the business units in relation to new contractual arrangements and in the interpretation of existing contractual arrangements.
- Identify and mitigate legal risk within SPSA and the SCDEA and provide commercial legal advice as required.
- Provide legal advice, when required, on employment law matters.
- Manage delegated matters relating to the identification, safeguarding and commercial exploitation of intellectual property rights or assets arising or created by virtue of SPSA or SCDEA activities.
- Manage the outsourcing of legal matters to external legal suppliers to ensure quality, cost efficiency and appropriate timescales for matter progression.
- To deputise for the Head of Legal & Compliance where necessary in relation to legal matters.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as required.
