>> This post, which is temporary for 1 year, will be based in Inverurie. You will be involved in developing a Rehabilitation and Enablement service to clients in the Inverurie area and will be working alongside Homecare, Care Management, Allied Health Professional and Community Nursing staff as part of an Early Implementer Team. You will be involved in assessment, goal setting, provision of service, evaluation and skill sharing within the team.

>> You have a Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy and must be state registered. As well as having the ability to supervise and motivate others you have a sound knowledge of community care legislation and the ability to evidence Continuing Professional Development. Ability to travel within Aberdeenshire is essential. >> We require enthusiastic and experienced professionals to join the busy Occupational Therapy team in providing a service to disabled and elderly people. Working with members of the Multidisciplinary Community Care Team and Housing Services you will provide OT input to clients and their carers, helping them towards independence in their own home. >> This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. An offer of employment by Aberdeenshire Council will be subject to the outcome of this check being satisfactory. The preferred candidate will also be required to provide an Overseas Criminal Records Check from other countries as deemed necessary. An offer of employment by Aberdeenshire will be subject to the outcome of this check being satisfactory.

Certain terms and conditions of service for this post may change under proposals to implement revised provisions, which the Council is to consult and negotiate on during February 2012.

Job Purpose


>> To assess, advise and provide a range of services aimed at maximising opportunities for personal independence within the community for people with various forms of disability. To develop service to a broad client group, using the specialist knowledge base of Occupational Therapy.

Main Tasks


  • Assess clients
  • Undertake People Handling Risk Assessment
  • Educate, advise and support clients and carers
  • Arrange the provision of equipment and adaptations
  • Allocate, monitor and oversee the work of the OTAs and OTTAs
  • Undertake administrative tasks
  • Promote Aberdeenshire policy on disability issues and carries out other professional duties related to disability
