BEFRIENDING / MENTORING SUPPORT WORKER
2 YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT
Moray Youth Action provides support and preventative services for vulnerable young people. The service aims to increase the range of options for young people by providing and promoting the means by which they can address their difficulties and find solutions while continuing to live in their own communities. We have received funding from Comic Relief to provide a twin location peer mentoring service,
We propose to bring together the work of two Aberlour services, Aberlour Youthpoint, an award winning street-based youth work initiative in gangland Glasgow and Aberlour MYA Mentoring Service. The objective is to learn from each others’ model and adopt elements that can be transferred. Young people participating will have opportunities to communicate with their peers in another very different part of Scotland. Urban will meet rural. Both services would like to improve the young people’s outcomes in:
- Health – reduced use of alcohol, increased healthy lifestyle
- Violence – improved conflict-resolution skills – raised self-esteem
- Employability – core employability skills (SVQ) and ASDAN qualifications
Through existing and new activities the project will provide individual personalised support as well as group diversionary activity and thematic group work.
You will manage, co-ordinate and support a number of children/young people and volunteers within the service. You will co-ordinate and organise activities in conjunction with a small group of volunteers, attend activities to support volunteers and young people, monitor and evaluate activities and produce a range of reports as required. You will assist in training volunteers to ensure they can contribute effectively to the service. You will maintain regular contact with volunteers and provide them with appropriate support and guidance and monitor practice in relation to expected service standards and child protection issues.
Interviews are expected to be held week commencing 5th March 2012.
