Strathclyde Fire & Rescue is looking for a Temporary Fitness Advisor to contribute to an effective occupational health advisory service, by providing a professional service and working with managers to provide specialist advice and guidance, to enable them to promote a healthy, safe and productive approach to work. You will be required to contribute to and influence the formation of organisational policies and protocols by providing specialist information on fitness related issues.

Candidates must have a Degree in Exercise Physiology/Sports Science or equivalent and the Gym Instructor Exercise & Fitness Level 2 qualification. You must also have experience in carrying out fitness assessments and making recommendations on fitness for role. You must be able to work autonomously and use your own initiative with excellent communication, organisational and planning skills.

The successful candidate will be flexible and adaptable with excellent interpersonal skills You will be required to make professional decisions on employee’s fitness for general and specialist duty, either at recruitment, on transfer or after absence and advise management accordingly. You must have supervisory experience and attend internal and external meetings as required, to discuss good practice and issues affecting Health and Fitness.

It is essential that you have a driving license as you will on occasions be required to drive the Occupational Health Recruitment Vehicle,be flexible, adaptable and motivated. This post will require evening and occasional weekend work, together with attendance at seminars and training events. It is desirable that candidates have a general understanding of the role of Occupational Health within a Fire & Rescue Service and it is also desirable that you have experience in carrying out general health assessments. Hours of work: 25½ hours.
Tuesday - Thursday 0845 - 1645 (Tuesday 1645 - 2045, 7½ irregular hours allowance). This post is subject to the provision of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exclusions and Exemptions) Scotland Order 2003. Therefore the successful candidate will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and will be required to carry out regulated work with adults.
