Job Description
Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering has proven and extensive civil engineering and project management skills, delivering engineering excellence through cost-efficient, client focused solutions from minor works through to major infrastructure projects.
Due to our growing order book an exciting opportunity has arisen for an Estimator to support our regional projects.Working within the Estimating Department in Paisley processing tenders from receipt to submission (up to £5m in value), the successful candidate may at present be working either as an Estimator and looking for advancement or an experienced Civil Engineer seeking a career change.
Responsibilities
- Preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates for a wide variety of civil engineering works across all market sectors
- Check & ensure maintenance of a controlled copy of Client’s Enquiry document & resultant communications
- Risk review of the Client’s Enquiry to inform bid decisions
- Prepare subcontract & materials enquiries and review subsequent quotations
- Build up an accurate cost estimate for the permanent works in an elemental and analytical format utilising Balfour Beatty estimating software (Candy based)
- Prepare an accurate cost estimate for the preliminaries resources required to carry out the works in accordance with agreed programme & engineering requirements
- Check labour & plant resources accumulated in the cost estimate balance with those derived from the tender programme
- Prepare & present the commercial aspects of the tender to the Directors/Senior Managers for adjudication and approval
- Prepare the commercial tender for submission to the Client
- On acceptance of tender by Client check proposed contract reflects the enquiry documents and subsequent offer
- Prepare and present the commercial handover documents to the contract delivery team
- Liaise with construction teams to ensure output & resource data collected providing feedback for future tenders
Requirements
- Experience in working in a variety of civil engineering sectors including roads/highways
- A good working knowledge of outputs normally achieved by operatives and subcontractors in a number of trades and those operating various types of equipment
- An appreciation of engineering techniques & their suitability
- A practical knowledge of safe methods of working
- Ability to assess site conditions from a physical inspection & interpretation of intrusive surveys & soils investigations
- Practiced in quantification & familiar with standard methods of measurement and forms of contract
- A record of securing successfully completed contracts
- Candidate ideally has working knowledge of Candy estimating system
- HNC/HND/BEng/MEng or BSc in Civil Engineering.
