Having been named as Scottish University of the Year 2011/12 and leaping up the league tables, Heriot-Watt University is embarking upon a Major Capital Campaign. The Campaign will span the 10 years leading up to the University's Bicentenary in 2021, with the completion of Phase 1 in 2016 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the University receiving its Royal Charter.

In order to support this new and exciting project, the University is looking to appoint a Research and Proposal Writing Officer who will to play an important role within the team in realising the Campaign. Reporting to the Director of Development and Alumni Relations, the successful candidate will form part of the wider External Affairs Directorate.

The post holder will, using expertise in information retrieval from a wide range of resources and media, identify and manage the University’s pool of potential donors (prospects) including Individuals, Trusts and Foundations and the Corporate sector in order to provide a proactive prospect identification and research service to the Development & Alumni Office, senior University staff and senior volunteers. They will also take the lead in researching and writing a flow of imaginative and appealing proposals to charitable trusts and foundations to secure funds for University initiatives.  

To be successful, the applicants need to be experienced in prospect research with excellent information retrieval and analytical skills and have knowledge of Raiser’s Edge database or equivalent. They will have a thorough knowledge of the solicitation process and of the information needed to underpin it and have strong communication, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to think both creatively and strategically.

The post will require attendance at events etc outside working hours including weekends.
