Contract:   Full Time 2 yr. Fixed Term Contract (37.5 hrs. p/w)

Glasgow Caledonian University and Mahle Engine Systems UK Ltd, Kilmarnock, Scotland seek a highly motivated and practically oriented research scientist/engineer to undertake a 2 year research project into the application of surface characterisation and metallurgy knowledge to identify factors influencing integrity of bimetallic strip bond. This will be achieved through identification of failure mode concepts and proposed AlSn production line modifications.

The successful candidate will be an associate of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) which is one of Europe’s leading graduate programmes that provides the opportunity for high calibre graduates to be employed on strategic projects of importance to the company, whilst supported by a dedicated academic team from the University involved.

 The project will be fully supported by expertise from the School of Engineering and Built Environment at Glasgow Caledonian University. This support includes an individual development plan, personal training, and support for a Masters level qualification where appropriate.

 This 24-month post based at Mahle Engine Systems UK Ltd in Kilmarnock is an exciting and challenging position which will provide an ambitious and committed candidate with valuable experience.

 Candidates should possess a minimum of a 2:1 or 1st class honours degree in Materials Sciences/Engineering. Experience of working in the metal bonding industry is desirable along with some exposure to project management. Excellent organisation, interpersonal, communication and project management skills will be key as well as the ability to interface with and work with a professional industrial engineering environment.
