Job Description

Salary: SCP 03, £11,913

Standard working week is 36 hours.

The Improvement Service is part of the Local Government family. We work to help improve the efficiency, quality and accountability of local public services in Scotland by providing advice, consultancy and programme support to all 32 councils and their partners.

We plan to expand our successful graduate assistantship programme, developing skilled graduates who in a variety of cases have been appointed to quality roles in other organisations across the public sector. We are looking to recruit up to four new graduates for a period of up to 1 year, with a review point at 6 months.

Comprehensive induction and training will be provided as well as opportunities to shadow experienced project managers and become involved in supporting frontline improvement activities and initiatives

This opportunity is open to all graduates regardless of subject background however sound organisational skills and a pro-active approach would be advantageous, as well as knowledge of the public sector and local government

We are looking to recruit graduates into the following areas of our business:

  • Research and quantitative analysis
  • Front line project support
  • Business administration

Prospective candidates should note that a knowledge and understanding of these areas would be beneficial and should indicate on the application supporting statement which areas they wish to be considered for.

You will gain insight into the workings of Local Government, what matters to individual councils and their partners locally and experience their drive to improve the quality of live for communities and individuals.
