The National Theatre of Scotland’s ambition is to make extraordinary theatre experiences that will stay in the hearts and minds of audiences and participants long after they have gone home.
The Company does this with an ever-evolving community of play-makers, maverick thinkers and theatre crusaders. And with no building of its own, the National Theatre of Scotland has the freedom to go wherever it finds an audience. It truly is a theatre without walls.
Vicky Featherstone is the inaugural Artistic Director of this groundbreaking Company and has led the way over the last eight years. With her move to The Royal Court, the Board of the National Theatre of Scotland is seeking to appoint an exceptional Artistic Director to build on her achievements and lead the Company into its next successful phase.
The Artistic Director is the lead officer for the Company and is responsible for shaping the artistic policy, programme and productions to the highest standards, as well as for holding overall accountability for the organisation’s strategic, operational and financial well-being.
The Artistic Director will provide an ambitious, confident and inspirational artistic leadership that motivates and enthuses artists and audiences locally, nationally and internationally with the quality of the National Theatre of Scotland’s work, partnerships and collaborations.
The successful candidate will have the vision, experience, energy and skills to shape the Company’s ongoing ambitions. He or she will have previous leadership experience; a proven track-record of programming and commissioning theatre; strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to motivate and inspire creative individuals and teams; experience of financial management and fundraising; a wide network of contacts internationally; and the confidence to operate effectively at the highest political levels.
