Advance the cause of patient protection
The GMC is the independent regulator of doctors in the UK – our purpose being to protect, promote and maintain the health and safety of the public by ensuring the highest standards in medicine. We rely on the professionalism of all our staff to ensure that our goals are delivered and to continue to build the reputation of the GMC with doctors and the public.
As part of our reform agenda, we have established a team of locally based Employer Liaison Advisors across the UK to improve relationships with medical directors in the NHS and independent sector. This will also ensure they are properly supported in all aspects of medical regulation, particularly in relation to our fitness to practise work and Revalidation proposals for doctors. You will be an important ambassador for the GMC, forging strong and resilient relationships with medical directors in Scotland at a time of significant change, both within the GMC and, importantly, within the NHS.
This is a key role for the GMC and will require strong relationship management skills, together with an ability to grasp the technical nature of our work; an important part of the role being the ability to explain this cogently and accurately. You will also need to be comfortable with handling the detail of individual cases in relation to a doctor’s fitness to practise and with understanding of our legal framework.
Regulatory experience would be helpful. However, as long as you have excellent relationship management skills and the ability to get to grips with the detail of our regulatory framework we would welcome your application. Although the role will be home based in Scotland, the first three to six months in post will be spent in Manchester or London where we will provide comprehensive training for the role.
In return, we can offer long-term career progression and an attractive package that includes final salary pension scheme and private medical insurance.
