The Rural Connect Project is all about getting people from West Lothian, out there, experiencing the rural environment for themselves.  Being part of the team, as Coordinator or Project Worker, you’ll help us do just that.  We need people who are full of enterprising and brilliant ideas with the energy and commitment to turn them into reality.

We want you to engage hundreds of young people in learning about the countryside, their heritage, and local environmental topics, involving their families, their schools and community groups, through local businesses.  We want you to create exciting (and safe) initiatives and activities to develop understanding about the rural environment, learning and employment opportunities.  As well as engaging everyone you’ll help develop and deliver an exciting events and learning programme – and it’s your enthusiasm and expertise that will deliver unforgettable experiences, time and time again.  Have you got what it takes to bring this exciting project to life?

Posts are jointly funded through West Lothian Leader, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Oatridge College.

About you

Do you want to make a difference, are you imaginative, resourceful, get a buzz out of creating experiences that people will remember for a lifetime and can’t wait to get started?  If you are then you will naturally be one of those people who likes to both start and finish projects – a creator and finisher.

You will need to be a good listener, communicator, a relationship builder, a negotiator with experience of being involved in the organisation of activities – either paid or voluntary with some hands-on experience of behind the scenes, research and development activities.  Multitasking on a daily basis will be the norm.

Naturally you will need to have a good understanding of the rural environment, the countryside or community development.

The Project requires 2 live-wire people to be Rural Connect Project Workers (Education).  You will be required to devise exciting learning and activity events, create learning materials and activities and be the person who connects people.  We expect you to be in daily contact with all sorts of learners and wider participants, getting people involved doing things.  Leading stimulating learning and developmental activities will be second nature to you.  If you have up-to-date knowledge of things rural, perhaps just finished your degree in a related subject, this is an ideal 1st job opportunity

This will involve organising the members of the Rural Connect team to deliver project outputs, managing all funding claims and reports etc. You will be the hub of the project – the key person to liaise with local stakeholders – young or older – to draw up schedules of activity and learning - to meet our participant’s expectations. As a learning project, you will be key in designing learning materials, on-line resources so people can make use of the materials outside formal learning environments.

This is your opportunity to help us shape the Rural Connect Project, to make sure we connect with people, create a buzz about things rural, get young and old people involved in their own communities and help folks get a kick out of their local heritage, countryside and their neighbourhoods.

Help us make the rural outdoors even more attractive to all the people of West Lothian (and maybe even further!).
