We have an exciting opportunity for an HR Specialist to become an integral part of the Human Resources team at Clyde, driving continual improvement and best practice within our organisation. Based in the West of Scotland, Babcock work side by side with colleagues from the Royal Navy and Ministry of Defence to ensure that HMNB Clyde is operational 24/7, 365 days a year.

To ensure the Company becomes/remains an 'Employer of Choice' and to safeguard it against litigation, the HR Specialist will be required to enhance the speed and quality of decision-making by providing advice to managers on the practical implementation of HR Policies, employment legislation and best practice. You will initiate, lead and support business change initiatives (such as changes to culture, working practices and customs) in order to transition the business from its public sector legacy to a high performance culture with a strong commercial focus, ultimately providing a rewarding/satisfying working environment for staff by driving continuous improvement and best practice within the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • To advise managers on general working practices such as: absence management, performance management, discipline, grievances and the full range of employment and employee relations matters to ensure legislation, company policy and best practice are followed.
  • Support managers and HR colleagues in making the right resourcing choice to fill need (e.g. permanent staff member, fixed short-term contract, experienced hire) and recommend appropriate channels to recruitment, e.g. internal search, recruitment agencies, national/local publications, trade magazines, careers fairs, internet etc.
  • Develop a recruitment plan in line with the strategy to replace and renew resource ensuring consistent corporate branding.
  • To create, implement and take ownership of an effective Recruitment & Retention strategy in order to maintain a skilled and motivated workforce capable of meeting and exceeding customer demands.
  • To support HR in project work in order to enable continuous development of HR strategy, essentially 'adding value', and to play a lead role in the implementation of defined strategies from conception to completion by enabling the translation of strategy into operational delivery and by contributing to the operational planning process.
  • To lead and/or contribute to Company wide working groups/training initiatives and represent the HR Department as required in achieving the strategic objectives.
  • To analyse and manage complex and potentially litigious HR issues through professional interventions, guidance, interpretation and application of employment law and best practice.
  • To actively support and promote the devolvement of HR management responsibilities to line management in order to focus on improving line managers people management skills.

  • Experience of Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience of using an HR Information system
  • Experience of handling complex ER casework

    Qualifications

  • Degree level or postgraduate qualification in HR
  • Chartered membership of the CIPD would be desirable
