Roles and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
Control of Lifting operations (including complex and tandem lifts)
Preparation of lift site in accordance with Appointed Person's (AP) Safe System of Work. Control lifting and turning arrangements for Units and Blocks in accordance with Engineering Department guidance and AP's Method Statement.
Write and brief appropriate Risk Assessments/Method statements for all lifting operations Co ordinate Mobile Crane activities for Lifting and Turning
Co ordinate Transporter movements and activities
Carry out safety audits and co-ordinate equipment surveys as necessary to meet safety regulations.
Control the issue and use of Lifting Equipment
Ensure correct personnel are assigned to Lifting operations
Identify training needs for all Heavy Handling operatives
Undertake training as and when required to fulfil requirements of the role.
Ensure maintenance and upkeep of equipment within designated area.
Take ownership of activities/processes within Heavy Handling remit.
Manage the work load to meet contract requirements whilst achieving cost, time and safety requirements.
Ensure safe working practices are adhered to at all times under the "safety first" culture.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate shall have relevant qualifications and experience in Lifting Operations and the Regulations regarding Lifting Equipment. Extensive experience in lifting/turning operations and heavy transport is desirable. Slinging/Rigging certificates or experience. Crane Supervisor NVQ 3 (desirable). Excellent Communication Skills. Team Working Skills. Experience of developing method statements/risk assessments. Experience in the usage of and lifting with mobile/dockside cranes is also desirable.
Application Information
This position will be subject to a 6/7 day, 2 shift working arrangement, which is scheduled to commence on 1st October 2012. This is a new shift pattern that is working time directive compliant, and is based on average on a 39 hour week.
