THE ROLE:

The overall purpose of this role is to set and sustain engineering and inspection standards for materials, corrosion and welding technology, advocate good practice, coach engineers across the site and deliver critical judgements on the integrity and fitness for purpose of the assets.

Dimensions:

  • Deliver services to all plant areas and process technologies
  • Lead Risk Based Inspection implementation across all plants onsite
  • Manages a small team of 2 specialist discipline experts delivering materials, corrosion and welding technology services to the site

  • Principal Accountabilities:

  • Develop, sustain and advocate material and corrosion standards for engineering and inspection to enable compliance with the law and delivery of business targets for asset integrity, SHE, reliability and cost.
  • Establish and sustain a materials and corrosion knowledge base necessary to deliver legal requirements and business targets.
  • Advocate good practice and provide guidance and coaching to engineers across the site to achieve the mechanical engineering capability (in materials, corrosion and welding technology) necessary to deliver legal compliance and asset targets.
  • Investigate materials failures to understand root causes and recommend actions and processes to prevent recurrence.
  • Lead implementation of Risk Based Inspection (RBI) across all assets and apply materials and corrosion expertise.
  • Coordinate the management and delivery of specialist 3rd party metallurgical services which support materials failure investigations.

  • Special Features:

    The jobholder is the site "Subject Matter Expert" for the following technical subject disciplines

  • Materials and Corrosion,
  • Painting and Coatings
  • Insulation and Fireproofing.

  • THE CANDIDATE:

  • Graduate Mechanical or Materials Engineer probably with Chartered Engineer status.
  • Substantial experience of design, fabrication, maintenance and operation of refinery and petrochemicals equipment.
  • Deep knowledge of materials, their specification and manufacture, welding techniques, coatings, insulation and fireproofing, design codes, interactions between process fluids and materials and, in particular, failure mechanisms and their diagnosis and prevention.
