PURCHASING MANAGER

BASED EDINBURGH AREA - MANUFACTURING / CONTRAT RESEARCH / LIFE SCIENCES / BIOTECHNOLOGY - SALARY EXCELLENT / NEGOTIABLE

Based near Edinburgh, but with bases across the world, Edgar Stewart's client has built a global company uniquely designed to meet the needs of life sciences clients in the Agrochemical, Pharmaceutical, Chemical and Veterinary product sectors. They work with them as a Contract Research Organisation (CRO) partner, helping them to bring their range of products to market in a rapidly evolving and demanding environment. They now need to make the key hire of a Purchasing Manager, as part of a huge expansion plan.

In this key European role you will be responsible for the Purchasing functions in Edinburgh and various other European locations. You will also be required to work with the Global Purchasing group based at the corporate head office in Boston on a number of group wide initiatives.

You will be responsible for ensuring that our client receives the best value for money on all purchases of capital equipment, goods and services and also that all items are purchased in accordance with company policy and procedures, that they meet the required specification and quality and are available as and when required. You will have people-management responsibilities for all staff related to the Purchasing function.

You should be Degree qualified or equivalent with significant experience within a Senior Purchasing/buying role. Proven communication and people-management skills are critical as is the ability to support, train and develop staff under your control. In addition you should have strong interpersonal skills to fulfil this liaison role between our internal customers and suppliers. You will have good commercial, organisational, and negotiation skills. A keen interest in quality issues and ideas for quality improvement is required.

Experience with general laboratory related procurements and associated supplier base is a plus but not required. This will suit candidates who have previous Procurement Management experience in a manufacturing, engineering, technology or life sciences / biotech business. We would also be happy to consider Senior or Principle Buyers / Procurement professionals looking for their first major managerial role.
