MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER(S)

BASED EDINBURGH £30-40,000 PLUS BENEFITS

Based in Edinburgh, Edgar Stewart's client is a well established a growing engineering design consultancy business. They offer a full design, development and product supply service, for some of the world's largest brand names in markets such as medical devices, consumer, defence, industrial, aerospace, pharmaceutical, commercial and communication products. Ongoing commercial growth means they now need to recruit a number of highly experienced Mechanical Design Engineers.

Reporting into the Managing Director, the Mechanical Design Engineer's primary function is to provide professional Mechanical Engineering expertise for customers who range from large, well known, multinational companies to small start-up organisations. You will be highly involved product design from concept / 1st principles for a range of plastic injection moulded and sheet metal based products.

This role will suit candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • Proven experience in the detail design and realisation of mass-produced, global products.
  • Pro/Engineer Wildfire CAD software experience preferred or Solid Edge / Solid Works / Pro Mechanica.
  • Solid understanding of engineering principles.
  • A thorough understanding of modern DFA & DFM techniques.
  • Experience of FMEA analysis techniques.
  • In-depth & demonstrable knowledge of plastics and sheet metal design.
  • Proven materials knowledge and materials selection.
  • Understanding of electrical component packaging, EMC & PCB design.
  • Knowledge of the full product design 'life cycle' - initial ideas to preproduction support.
  • Professional awareness and appreciation of client focus.

    • We are able to consider mechanical designers from a range of engineering / manufacturing sectors, however we would be especially keen to hear from candidates who have designed medical devices, plastic injection moulded products and castings or consumer goods. You will be equally comfortable working alone with minimum supervision or as part of a wider project team, and at all times bring your own powerful creative input into the collaborative mix, always pushing the boundaries with fresh ideas and technical solutions.

    Apart from the opportunity to work with some of the world's leading household names on a varying range of product development programs, there is also an attractive benefits package & development program. The base salary is likely to be between £30-40,000 per annum. This is a superb opportunity to join Scotland's leading mechanical design consultancy business, and to be at the sharp end of new product development. Our client will help with relocation expenses for those candidates able to relocate to Edinburgh. However, only candidates able to work freely in the EU will be considered.
