MANUFACTURING/PRODUCTION ENGINEER - BASED FIFE

Based in Fife, and part of a world renowned blue chip engineering business, Edgar Stewart's client designs and manufactures a range of engines and motors that power the hydraulic systems of heavy automotive lifting and earth moving equipment. A philosophy of continuous improvement, and ambitions to build world class systems and products, means they now need to make the key hire of a Manufacturing / Production Engineer.

Reporting into the Senior Engineer, the Manufacturing/Production Engineer will play a crucial role in leading, championing and supporting productivity, OEE and quality manufacturing improvement projects. You will also be responsible for driving and leading change from a cultural perspective from the shop floor up. Other core responsibilities should include:

  • Reviewing Design Office drawings of new and updated components for establishing manufacturing methods including costing of implementation.
  • Liaising with Production Control department in the preparation of route cards to define machining sequence(s).
  • Preparing CNC programs for new or updated components and establishing initial cycle times through component and machine proofing.
  • Initiating the design and manufacture of tooling, selection of machine tools and fixture requirements, as required, for new and updated component manufacture
  • Developing method sheets for use by the machine shop personnel.
  • Revising complete manufacturing processes to improve efficiency, utilising knowledge of current and new technologies and equipment, initialising design change requests, implementing changes and establishing new cycle times as required.
  • Developing methods and processes to minimise manufacturing downtime.
  • Assisting in the establishing of output targets based on machine cycle times and operator activity times ensuring continuous improvement in processes and improving manufacturing quality by reduction in process variations.
  • Liaising with supplier representatives on tooling, equipment and machine tool manufacturers to identify improvement opportunities and establishing technical specifications.

  • Educated to HNC/HND calibre in a technical / engineering discipline (Mechanical Engineering preferred), you are a proven Manufacturing / Production or Process Engineer. We are able to consider candidates from a range of industry/manufacturing sectors, but you are proven in the identification and execution of continuous improvement / lean projects. We would be especially keen to hear from any candidates with a background in CNC machining.
