Established in 1888, Nairn’s has been baking oatcakes for over 130 years.  Based in Edinburgh, we are now a major local employer and have established Nairn’s as the number one oatcake in the UK, consumed by 1 in 10 households across the country, whilst developing a wider range of oat-based products for both the domestic and international markets.

Due to an internal re organisation, we are seeking an enthusiastic, highly organised, assistant accountant to join our finance team. 

Ideally with at least two years’ experience in a similar role in a manufacturing environment, the position will span both purchase ledger and assistant accountant’s duties.

The purchase ledger is not high volume but requires care and accuracy to ensure invoices are checked, authorised and coded correctly. You will also be responsible for ensuring supplier queries are resolved, statements are reconciled and payment runs processed.  It is expected that the purchase ledger element should take approximately 50% of your time.

The remaining 50% of your time will be spent assisting the Commercial and Operations Accountants in a wide range of areas.  The Finance Dept is a small team and your role will be broad based and covers both Financial and Management Accounting duties. Amongst other tasks the successful candidate will be expected to perform balance sheet reconciliations, prepare monthly expenditure analysis for budget holders showing performance against target, post prepayments and accruals and other duties as required to assist in the smooth running of the dept.

In addition to providing evidence of experience and ability in the above areas the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate that they are ambitious, willing to learn, helpful and, a good team worker. Due to growth of the business a pro active attitude regarding improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Finance Dept is very important.

Familiarity with a range of accounting software is an advantage although training will be given if required. You should have intermediate to advanced working knowledge of MS Office, particularly Word and Excel.
Reporting directly to the Commercial Accountant, you will be based in our open plan office in Edinburgh and work as part of the multi-functional Head Office team. 

Although relevant experience is essential a part or full accounting qualification would be an advantage.
