PA/Secretary To The CEO/Book-keeperVacancy posted: Friday, 16 September 2016
Salary: up to £30,000 per annum, depending on experience and current salary
Job ref. no.: 9363
This is a combined secretarial and book-keeping role requiring equally good experience in both aspects of the job. You need to be an experienced PA/Secretary AND an experienced book-keeper/accounts person. Just one of those two aspects is unfortunately not going to be enough - it has to be both.
If you fit that description, and want to work somewhere a bit different, read on. The client is a highly successful property investment and development company. However, it is not just another faceless financial institution. Rather, it is a very small but long-established and close-knit team where intelligence, blended with tolerance and humour is required.
Because it is small, however, there is nowhere to go, promotion-wise, so it is probably not for you if you are ambitious in that sense. What it does offer is stability, and a varied, stimulating workload. The position is permanent and the office is very central in Edinburgh, making it accessible from any direction.
You will need to work hard, but you won't have to work late. The hours are 9.15am to 5.30pm with an hour and a quarter for lunch. It is not a long-hours culture and you will not be expected to be on call 24/7.
Your role would be to provide a PA/secretarial support to the Chief Executive while maintaining financial records and supervising a part-time book-keeper. The company uses Sage accounting software, so it is essential that you have working knowledge of it.
If you think you have seen this advertisement before, you probably have. One important difference from before, however, is that you DON'T need to have PAYE/HMRC experience any more - not necessarily anyway. You do still need to have the accounts and book-keeping, however.
The secretarial side includes typing of documents and correspondence, diary management and being a point of contact by telephone and by email on behalf of the Chief Executive. The ability to be accurate while getting through the work is critical.
Your background could be as an office manager, PA, EA, secretary, book-keeper or administrator, most likely a mixture of more than one. The key requirement for this position is that you have a fairly even split between the secretarial and the financial side.
When you apply, a few comments about why this interest you would be helpful and advantageous.
