You will be required to work 10 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.

We are looking to recruit part time Harbour Assistants for the harbours and marinas at Kirkcudbright and Stranraer (1 post at each location).

Based at Kirkcudbright or Stranraer Harbour, you will assist and support the Senior Harbour Assistants in the management of the operations at the respective harbour and marina, ensuring operations are carried out in a safe and efficient method and in compliance with current legislation and guidance.

Occasional work at other harbours will be required. You must have experience of handling boats. Experience and knowledge of harbour /marina operations are desirable. A VHF Operator's Licence, a boat master's licence or RYA Powerboat 2 (Commercial), and a Harbour Master's diploma (or similar) and are desirable.

You will undertake associated administrative duties and inspections, and carry out and/or supervise minor maintenance activities within the harbour, marina and navigable channel. The work will entail some weekend and unsociable hours of work to suit the harbour and marina operations. You will also be required to provide holiday and sickness cover for the Senior Harbour Asisstant. You must therefore have a flexible approach to the hours of work.

Knowledge of the Port Marine Safety Code, current Health & Safety legislation and Safe Management Systems are desirable. You must be enthusiastic and have the confidence to deal with the public and be computer literate. You must possess good oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work under the minimum of supervision and use your own initiative are desirable.

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

The above salary includes a current living wage supplement.
