36 hrs per week + 10% shift allowance - Fixed Term
The posts are of varying lengths and will start in April (19 week contract) and June (14 week contract). Candidates must be able to work 36 hours over five days on a rota system including public holiday, weekend and evening working.
The key duties of this post are:Assist in providing an environmental education service to educational establishments, conservation groups, community groups, youth organisations, members of the public and additional support groups. Assist in delivering a programme of community, educational and interpretative events and activities; supervise volunteers and work placements, enhancing the visitor experience and promoting active engagement with local communities and stakeholders. Assist in providing an information and advisory service on matters relating to West Lothian's countryside, environmental education, and leisure and recreation interests. This includes promotion of the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and assisting the Council/Access Ranger in its/their statutory duties in relation to the Act. The ability to meet own and team deadlines is vital.
The skills and experience you must have:Experience in working with members of the public of all ages and abilities Knowledge of countryside management issues and good communication skills are essential. A good level of fitness and current driving licence are also essential Candidates should have a certificate or diploma (or relevant experience) in an environmental science or related subject.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by West Lothian Council
