Background Information

Galloway Forest District is located in South West Scotland, employing nearly 100 staff and managing approximately 116,000 hectares (450 square miles) of the National Forest Estate. The District is a centre for nature conservation and public recreation with over a quarter of the landholding being managed with conservation and public access as key priorities.

The key responsibilities for the role will include:

  • Preparing a minimum of three Land Management Plan renewals per year using the organisation’s guidance.
  • Carry out site visits to assess site conditions and undertake consultation with relevant external stakeholders including members of the public.
  • Liaise with and submit plans and amendments to South Scotland Conservancy and answer any queries raised during this process to achieve plan approval.
  • To support and assist Galloway Forest District Planning and Environment team on general renewables and other infrastructure projects within the district.
