Head of Building Management (Ref: 569088)

Salary Range: £51,635 to £63,443

Location: Holyrood, Edinburgh

The Scottish Parliament’s home at Holyrood is an iconic, internationally-famous building which has won numerous awards for its architecture and its approach to inclusive design.  As well as being the centre of Scottish politics, it’s a building that represents Scotland’s diverse communities; a workplace for more than 1,000 people; and a visitor attraction in its own right.  The building’s unique design brings its own rewards - and challenges – to the Facilities Management team in supporting its development while keeping in line with the original vision for the building.

We’re looking for a building management professional who is excited by the opportunity to play a pivotal role in the life of this iconic building and being responsible for its maintenance and development.  You will have a senior role within FM and have day to day responsibility for managing the delivery of hard FM services, projects and specialist areas (fire, health and safety and environmental management),and ensuring high quality services are provided to all building users.  You will be responsible for the long term strategy to maintain the building to the highest standard, whilst meeting the needs of the parliament’s day to day business.  Collaboration is essential in this role where you will provide regular advice and guidance to senior management and our political stakeholders on various matters relating to the operation and maintenance of the building.

You will have a proficient track record of building maintenance in a senior role, ideally in a similar high profile environment or where building management is a key priority to the business.

With a team of professional staff to support you, you will have an inclusive approach in the management of your team, with a passion and drive to develop a team that delivers the best service to your stakeholders. You will be someone who collaborates and engages extremely well and has the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with a range of stakeholders. The ability to make high level decisions, solve problems and show resilience is essential.

Membership of an appropriate professional body and/or a degree is desirable or alternatively significant experience in a similar high profile environment.

The Scottish Parliament is committed to achieving a diverse workforce which reflects our diverse communities and we welcome applications from all. We are an autism friendly building, have supportive family friendly policies, a room for prayer, and staff groups which support diversity in the workforce.   We offer excellent benefits with great opportunities to work flexibly during your working week, generous holidays (40.5 days’ leave including public holidays) and the opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangement.
