We are currently seeking applications for a Construction professional and Technical Author within the Scottish Government, Building Standards Division based in Livingston. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. Candidates with a disability who meet the essential criteria below will be invited to the assessments.

Working through Scottish Ministers, Building Standards Division is responsible for developing building regulations and supporting guidance to set minimum standards. These are for the health, safety and welfare of building occupants, furthering both conservation of energy and sustainable development and the system that supports the application of the standards and regulations. The successful applicant will have responsibility for, and develop/maintain the ‘safety’ and ‘noise’ related standards in the building regulations and associated technical guidance.

Qualifications Required

Essential Criteria

Full corporate membership of RIAS, RIBA, RICS, CIAT, CABE or equivalent. Extensive knowledge of current building regulations and the supporting Technical Handbooks. Construction industry experience. Report writing skills. IT skills – in particular the use of Word and PowerPoint.

Desirable Criteria

Experience of handling sensitive subjects.
